Weekends can be a tough time to stick to those healthy habits you've acquired throughout the week. I tend to not have too much trouble as I sleep till noon and only have time for lunch and dinner, but I am guilty of not eating so well for those two meals, and skipping workouts. But I have been able to adapt my thinking a bit.
Weekends are the perfect time to fit in a workout. I find myself a bit more relaxed, more laid back, and there always seems to be at least SOME time to fit in a workout. I have been trying to make my weekends my power days by doing a few workouts. Today, it was a 2 mile run, and the 30 day shred. Tomorrow, I plan on shredding for two levels. Since I have the time, I might as well. Especially since the busy week can also lead to skipped workouts...ah the vicious cycle!
Here's to fit and healthy weekends!

Runners High...
I love running. When winter hits, and the cold encroaches on us, I tend to run less, but the urge is still deep within. The past two years, I have run a 5k around my birthday. This year will be no different. And thankfully, this little run usually gets me either outside braving the cold air, or inside at a gym, running on the gerbil mill. I prefer to switch to classes and circuit training in the winter time but there comes a time when I just need to get back to it.
As I tend to run consistently in the summer, I generally don't lose all of my stamina during the winter months. The past few years I have started back up by hitting the pavement for as long as I can. This helps me gauge where I am at. I don't push it, and I certainly don't continue on if there is any pain, but I just like to push the limit a bit and see what I can do.
Today I hit the gym and ran about 1.6 miles. I started getting a side stitch, so I decided to switch to other activities at the gym, knowing full well that this won't be my last run of the week.
Since we are heading to Hawaii in two weeks (HELL YES!!!!), it will be nice to build some stamina so I can at least do a run or two in the warm weather!
It felt good to pound that pavement. It's nice being back!

Monday Run!
Monday I got home from work a little late. It was ridiculously cold outside, but I was craving an outdoor run. I started out and it was already dark (I don't really understand daylight savings time). My muscles also felt a bit tight and I couldn't really get my tight shins to join the party. I could have given up right there. In fact, I considered it. But I just told my self to get to a mile. My body warmed up, I started to get in the groove, and I was feeling good. I told myself the next step was to get to two miles. After two miles, I was feeling great. The desire to complete a 5k was at a peak. I felt driven and motivated and not only did I complete the 5k, I exceeded it by .15 of a mile. I ran 3.35 miles! Moral of the story: Fight for it-Don't Give Up!
IT WAS WONDERFUL! It felt amazing to be back in the game, to really feel good and happy running. My ankle still gets a little sore, but as long as I ice it, it doesn't give me to many problems. I feel so blessed for this!
Even though there are good days and bad; days where a workout fits into the schedule perfectly and days where it doesn't; days where you eat healthy and feel content and days where you eat the cupboard and feel remorse, the main thing is to fight for it and not give up!

Pounding the Pavement...
So I am going to slowly begin embracing running again. The desire to pound the pavement, run a race, and sweat till I can’t sweat no more has taken over my brain! I am literally jonesing to get out there.
I have done my exercises, iced, popped a few pills (Advil you sillies!), and stretched the shit out of it. I put on a pair of heels this past weekend, and it didn’t hurt nearly as bad as it did last month. From what I have read on the inter web, as long as I am cautious, and am aware of the ankle (I am thinking I should just rock my brace while I am out running), I should be good to go. And I am smart enough to know that if it doesn’t feel right, then I need to stop. And while I am smart enough to know, I am not always smart enough to do, so I need to really be smart about this (overuse of smart anyone??!?!?).
I ran a few weeks back, just some short stints back and forth on the sidewalk. It actually felt pretty good. I also ran a bit this week, on the treadmill at the new club I joined. No pain, and hardly any discomfort. I think if I just take this step by step, I should be good to go!

bleh...
Today is National Running Day. eff
I did what any person with a bum foot would do. I put on my running clothes, running shoes, and my nifty lace up cast. I snapped a picture (and secretly wished I was running my ass off outside).
Then I stripped out of my running clothes and hopped in the bath. Whatev's...On the positive side, I am walking completely off crutches. I am slow...(huh, just like I run!)...but I am making progress!
P.S. I spent the night working on school work...I will continue the Alaskan Adventure Series tomorrow night! I like to keep my peeps on pins and needles!

I'm gonna try!
http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-267-269-14350-0,00.html
This is a good decision after a team treat run to DQ-(ugh, it got me again!) I may not run every day but I am going to try and if nothing else, hopefully it will help me increase how often I run!
Two more sleeps until Chaz and I will be on our way to Seattle! I am so excited!!!!! The anticipation has been building for like at least three month now! I can't believe it's here! And I need a break like I need a salad! Holy hellz ballz have the last three weeks been stressful. And to top it off, Chaz's catalytic converter was stolen off of his truck Sunday night...while it was parked in our parking lot! (straight up biatches!) Cool, right?! And $400 later that has proven to be a royal pain in the behind, but ya know what? I don't care because I leave for Alaska in 2 days! (THANK YOU GOD!)

1 of 12....
Saturday was the first 5k is my goal to run 12 5K's in the next 12 months. I ran the North Side Street Race 5k. Let's just say it didn't go super well. I finished in 37 minutes and some seconds. It was a small race-not chipped or anything. Just a clock at the end to let us know what time we came in at. Even with that time, I still ran (and walked) about a 12 minute mile, but the race and I just did not mesh.
On a serious note, I have had three really stressful weeks at work. I have not focused on running and have really let my nerves get the best of me. I have dealt with anxiety in the past but have really made ridiculous strides to over come it. The past 3 weeks however make me feel completely the opposite. And so, I think that a breakfast that did not sit well, mixed with not running as much over the past few weeks, mixed with heat and humidity, and my recent ability to not control my anxiety, measured up to a bombed race. I ran the first mile, and then had to walk a bit after feeling nauseous. This lead to short stints of running followed by short stints of walking the rest of the way. I just kind of lost my mojo and couldn't get it back. They sure know what they are talking about when they say that a lot of running is mental.
Yesterday it had cooled off due to a storm so I decided I needed a relaxing evening run. I logged 1.6 miles, and in under a 12 minute/mile pace. It felt good, and it really made me feel relaxed. I just wish I could mimic this feeling in a race setting more often.
I am still wavering as to whether or not I should run a 5k in Alaska...I am thinking I may just need a break and some true relaxation, and then I can come back and pick a different race for June. We'll see!

Friday Five...
Happy Friday Everyone!
- I am running a Warrior Dash 5k in September...think running over fire, under rope courses, through mud, and climbing walls...in addition, I am trying to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I would appreciate and be so grateful for any monetary donation you can give! Check out my page!
- I am going to run 12 5k's in 12 months. I got the idea from this blogger, who got the idea from another blogger. Do you think there are indoor races in the winter time?!?!?!? I will start my adventure tomorrow with May's 5k!
- I am trying to be ubber prepared for my trip to Alaska! I have been reading up on what to pack and emailing my sister-in-law! I am fricken stoked!
- The Dictator was not as funny as I thought it would be. Wait for the RedBox. I am going to see What to Expect when you're Expecting on Sunday...I imagine I will like this one a bit more.
- I made this wonderful, unhealthy recipe this week! Yummy! I added some portabella mushrooms and some chicken on the side for Chaz and it was perfect!

The Portable Loo...
That title is going to leave you guessing, because I am not going to recap my camping trip until tonight but hopefully it leaves you wanting more!
I weigh in on Wednesday's but this Wednesday I was so busy running out the door to an Orthopedic appointment that I forgot to do it...and again this morning. I haven't missed a weigh in for a few months now. And of course if happens the week I started partnering with a friend for continued motivation and support. We will share our ups and downs with each other and hopefully it will have us both feeling bomb! I have been on the down slope so all together I am feeling great, but I want to keep it up!

This week has been full of homework and prepping for our trip to Alaska! I even bought myself some mother fricken hiking boots!
I'm gonna have to find some hiking trails in the MN to make the purchase worth it but I am down for the challenge. They're totally men's boots, not like the female hiking boots were anymore more feminine, but I wouldn't have minded a pink shoe lace or something to make them girly...I digress. But I am stoked to have some wonderful, water proof shoes to really get down and dirty in Alaska. I can not wait to take it all in!
And I have two (one for sure) races coming up. I have a 5k this Saturday, and maybe another 5k while in Alaska. I have only been doing small, 1-2 mile runs, as I was waiting until after my Ortho appointment to really kick it into gear, so I don't really feel prepared...but then again, they're 5k's. I now how, and can run a 5k, so really, there's no excuses. We'll see what I decide. This Saturday's run will be a good gauge!

Knees deep in Journals
I am fully immersed in school work right now. My course does not finish till June 19th and I had every intention of procrastinating but my teacher had other plans and it totally snuck up on me! Last Sunday when I went to go dig into my homework, I realized our assignment was about 10 pages of our 25 page paper. And the remaining assignments all build upon that. So you, there ya go. Nothing like getting thrown into a research paper. But really, it's worked out to my benefit. I have some of the hardest parts done and can really just build it up from here. In the end, I know I will be happy, but for now, I am swamped! Not only with school, but work too...and that's another story, for another day. But enough about that crap!
Want the low down:
Today marks two weeks no meat. None at all.
And maybe three or four weeks no soda.
And I am down 9 pounds from Valentine's day. Slow and steady peeps! (insert: I will be doing this my whole life!)
I ran a mile tonight after dinner just because I had the urge...but I am taking it slow because next Wednesday I am seeing an Orthopedic doctor about my planters fasciitis (self diagnosed that is!). We'll see what the professional has to say. Until I know, I have been shredding away!
I go to Alaska in 2 weeks and 5 days....I CAN NOT WAIT!
I am stoked for a girls camping weekend this weekend!
And maybe a 5k in Alaska!?!?!? We'll see what the Doc says but I think it would be cool to run a race while I am there. How often will I get the chance to run a race in the AK? And for a good cause...suicide prevention. The race takes place June 2nd. That will be one year and one day since my best friends sister took her life...so yeah, I would love to run in her memory. And make some new memories...I'll keep you posted!
That's all for tonight folks!

First 10k done!
The race on Saturday went very well! It was cold and rainy, but I pulled of a good time and hey, I finished!
I spent Friday night at my friend LeeAnn's house. We had some pasta and spent the night relaxing. We got up the next morning and my mom grabbed us at 7:15 am.
The race was ridiculously well organized. There were shuttles from the VA Hospital to Minnehaha Falls since there is very little parking at the falls...only time this sucked was waiting in the cold rain pot race to get back on the bus...that line was a little too long.
On the way there however, the lines were short and the buses were rolling through at a consistent pace.
We got to the park and headed straight for the bathrooms. Then enjoyed some coffee, some stretching, and another bathroom break before heading to the starting line...I loved getting there early and having time to settle in.
The race started and I felt pretty good. With so many people, the race was slow to get started but I loved that! It helped me remember to set my own pace and fall into a comfortable groove to ensure I finish.
Around a mile and a half, I started to get a side ache. Instead of running through, I decided to nip that baby in the butt. I stopped, did some quick stretching, and made the stop worth while by removing my jacket which was getting a little too warm for comfort.
I stopped a second time at mile three to grab some water, and stretch my calf which was starting to feel tight. The next three miles went pretty smoothly. I did have to walk a few times, mostly for my calf, but one time out of pure exhaustion. I had started my way up this stupid hill and just decided that this hill was meant to be walked.
Mile four was probably my favorite mile. I have no clue why but the music on my I-pod was rocking, and I was feeling great! I just had this shit faced grin on my face. Best feeling ever.
I wish I could have hit the finish with that face but for some reason, right as I was coming into the finish line, I was hit with a waive of nausea. I straight up think it was nerves. I did so well at focusing on my pace, and how my body was feeling, but once again, I let me nerves get to me. I am an anxious person, but that's a bit too much! So a goal for my next race will be to just be relaxed! Running is such a mind game and I continue to learn new things all the time!
Even with that little hiccup, I ran the race, I finished in 1 hour and 16 minutes (hell yes!), and I am proud of myself!
A huge thanks to LeeAnn for the idea to sign up! You are such a motivating and great friend. My mutti for being an inspiration and for running the race with us! My hubby for starting the trek to the finish line but not making it there in time because I am a rockstar runner! lol (You can't blame him since it took me forever and 20 years to finish my half marathon last year!) I have the best husband in the world and all I ever get from him is motivation and praise...It's mind boggling how supportive he is! All my peeps who shared the love on Facebook! And of course the French Meadow who prepared my post race feast! I am so blessed to have such amazing rockstars in my life.

Mooooo
Yeah...that's the sound my calves are making...lol
No, actually, my calf is doing a lot better...still a little tight, but it withstood a 3.75 mile run yesterday so I think I should be good for Saturday's race. I am nervous though because I did not reach over 5 miles in my training...My calf straight up stood in the way of that. So completing a 6.2 mile run may be a challenge, but it's a challenge I am going to face head on! I have been stretching, icing, heating, compressing. I am really paying attention to my body and hopefully that helps.
Here is my plan for the rest of the week leading up to the race:
Today-walk, stretching, foam roller
Thursday-30 day shred, shake out run (mile or two)
Friday-Rest
Saturday-Run my tush off
Things I want to remember during race (a letter to myself!?!):

- Those people passing you, let them. Find your pace, and go with it. You are running for you, not them. Do YOUR best.
- Don't start out fast...it will kick you in the pants later.
- Take in your surroundings. Enjoy the atmosphere, the people, and the weather (even if it is supposed to be chilly! eek!)
- Listening to your body. What hurts? How does it feel? How do you feel? What feels good?
- Dream about the bath and nummy food you are going to eat when you are done!
In other news, I have given up pop...I have been getting my fix with Seagrams Sparkling Seltzer Water..the White Peach is ridic! Not sweet, of course, but still just refreshing! And yeah, I occasionally take a sip of my husband's soda, but whatev's...it's no where near as much as I used to drink!
And I think that's about it folks!

Ugh, my legs!
I rested two days, well, I shredded for two days (30 day shredded, that is!), and was able to finally get in a run yesterday.
During my run, my calf actually felt great. No tightness or pain, I only wish the weather would have been nicer. I did a mile indoors at the Y (on the track), and then took it outside for another mile. The rain ended up holding off though so I wish I would have just gone to the lake.
I was beyond pumped that my calf was feeling good. I made sure to stretch before, and after, and drink a lot of water during the day, along with some wonderful green tea. I am feeling a little tightness today, but no pain. I am hoping to combat it with some advil, water, and a nice rub down from my mom at the hockey event tonight! That's right folks, one more weekend of hockey. It will be long, it will be crazy, but the money will be wonderful, especially since our trip to Alaska is quickly approaching (yep, just did a happy dance at my desk!). AND, the best part is, this Sunday is supposed to be nice, and we get done at 5, as opposed to 9 last Sunday, so I am hoping I can log my 5 mile run Sunday night! Wish me luck!

Bummer
The hockey tournament this weekend went well...of course it was long, and tiring, but the money is good, and I enjoy the people!
I watched what I ate, for the most part, and even snuck in a late night run Saturday night...kinda wishing I hadn't done that...well, actually really wishing I hadn't.
From the beginning of my run, my calf felt tight, but I just forged ahead, punching out a mile. I could tell me calf was unhappy, but I thought it would stretch out after a quick walk. It didn't, and Sunday I walked around with the tightest muscle cramp. My mom gave me a deep tissue massage...she's kind of a pro at that bizzo. And I have been icing, heating, compressing, and it was feeling much better...so today, when I could tell my body was craving a long run, I thought I would just head out and do it! In the back of my mind, my calf haunted me, but I had to give it a shot...everything else felt spot on. My calf, however, had other plans. And while it wasn't an intense pain, it was there, and if I learned anything from Saturdays run, it's that I can't push it. So after one mile tonight, I just threw in the towel. And I was bummed. I hate not getting in a run, especially when everything falls into place so nicely (ie. feeling good, good weather, timing).
I know next Saturday when I run my 10k, I will be thankful that I rested, but right now, I'm still kind of beating myself up. I need to learn that there is a time and place for everything and tonight just wasn't the night for a long run, even though I so wanted it to be. Wish me luck that after a few days of cross training, I can get back out there an pound the pavement!

A year and a few months...
So, last Wednesday I decided that I was going to go hard core with my Weight Watchers tracking (Wednesday’s are my weigh in day)…I haven’t done that since like, umm, last April…I think. I have been a member for over a year, and I will preface with the fact that WW has been at the forefront of my mind, most days. Very rarely am I not cognoscente of the choices I am making…but it has been a while since I have recorded and kept track of everything. But this week I did, successfully! Granted today is not Wednesday, but there is no stopping me now! I feel wonderful, empowered, refreshed.
I would say that starting 10k training has also probably helped, but I just feel great. In a few short days, my pants are fitting better, my stomach feels lighter, and I just feel like me! And boy have I been running! I printed off a schedule and have stuck to it! Every day! I don’t know why it is so easy to fall out of a habit, and so fricken hard to get back into it, especially when the habit feels good. Yeah, it’s hard work, and yeah, sometimes it is the last thing I want to do, but I have to remember to push through and know that in the end, I will love the results, the feeling, and ultimately, the action itself (ie. Working out!).
The one thing I am good at is not lying to myself. I am very real. I love food. I admit that. I know that. I OWN that! I am never going to question why I am a bigger girl…I fricken know why. I love cooking, and baking, and Sunday Family dinner, and eating out, but that also translates well into my Weight Watchers Journey. I am constantly reading blogs, digging for new recipes, and most of them I really enjoy. They have even become staples in my house.
So I have written before about how this will be a lifelong goal...I have a feeling I will always be watching what I eat and making sure I get enough exercise-and I know I am not the only one…I think I am the majority, and that is why I don’t get down on myself too often. And I know there will be ups and downs, I just want to continue to keep it in check! For life! I’m cool with that! I know what my body likes, needs, what have you, and consistent checking in is the best method for me. There will be splurge weekends, and I know I will forget to track or just get lazy in the future, and I am sure there will be months where I just don’t put enough energy into it….but I am making a goal to never be what I was last December…if I hit that number again(unless of course that is the number I hit when I am prego-but let’s hope I can be healthier then that!), the shits gonna hit the fan!
So that's me...for now...who knows what tomorrow holds but I am pretty sure a run, work, and dinner with a friend! Oh yeah, and cuddling my hubby!

Oh hi there!
Hey there! Friday I turned in my final paper! One more class to go, and I will be done! But I really took the end of last week to just focus on that paper and punch it out! I was happy with the paper, and hopefully can use it for my final course (25 page paper for that baby!), and this teacher was on her A game because grades were up already yesterday when I checked on a whim! 4.0 baby! It felt really good to see that, and now I am all that much closer to graduation!
I have a four week break before my next and last course starts. I really love having the free time and am looking forward to that when I graduate! With my free time, I have been making more dinner at home! We have been eating lots of fresh salads!

And playing around with meals! We bought these Pepridge Farm sandwich thins A. because they are healthier, and B. because we never finish off a pack of buns...they always go to waste! With these cute little fishes, I am able to make sandwiches for lunch, pb&j's for breakfast and just toast with butter. Below is a picture of our sloppy joes and sweet potato tots! I would maybe use regular sandwich thins for sloppy joes since the mouth cutout on the fish makes it a bit flimsy but I loved the taste and texture and it was the right amount of bread!
And I have had more time to run! My <3! I signed up for a 10k on April 28th and have started logging miles! I run slow (whatev's, at least I am running), but I just want to feel GOOD when I run this 10k! I want to be trained so there are no injuries and I want to maybe improve on my speed.
I found a beginner's 10k work out plan online and copied it into a word.doc and played around to make it perfect for me! It includes cross training, which I love, and rest days! Tomorrow will be my first rest day after 3 good, hard days of working out. I am looking forward to it!

Cross training helps me make sure my muscles are strong, healthy, and ready to pound the pavement. I love incorporating the 30 day shred, yoga, classes at the Y, and other dvds.
So yeah, that's a lot, but I felt like some good catch up was worth it!

Spring has sprung..
It was a beautiful weekend with both days reaching over 60 degrees. We spent a lot of time outside, and airing out our apartment, letting it breath a little bit.
The cats loved the fresh air and spending time looking outside. Aren't these two just so cute!
The race, and my friend LeeAnn, have now motivated me to run a 10 k in April so I have my next goal! And today marks day number 2 in my 30 days of working out challenge. I love working out. I love the way I feel. But I just don't prioritize it like I should...but now I am taking a stand to make it important; to make feeling good important!

Wonderful March Weekend...
This weekend was a nice, relaxing, get stuff done weekend.
Friday night I made dinner with my brother who was home from college and we played cards with my grandma. There is nothing better then spending time with family. These are the moments I will always remember.
Saturday morning my mom and I logged a 5.5 mile run. Much more then I expected, but my mom is good at pushing and motivating. I would say I am ready for the 5k next weekend.

I was hit with a migraine afterwards but luckily I had some good medicine and my nice bed to help me recover. Although my head was sore the rest of the evening, I was able to enjoy some Mexican food with my family.
I don't get migraines often, maybe one a year, but when I get them, I am knocked right down! Hopefully it will be a while before the next one.
Today, a perfectly relaxing Sunday, I worked on homework, hung with my family and husband, and did some cleaning and organizing.
That pile to the left is all donate...and that is probably only half of what I will have once I go through my dresser.
1 can TJ's light Organic Salsa Pinto Beans
1 lb. organic hamburger
taco seasoning
3 tbsp. salsa
1.5 cups light Mexican cheese
I pre-baked the crust, topped with the beans, hamburger mixture, salsa and cheese, baked for an additional 5-10 minutes, then topped with lettuce, chips, sour cream, salsa, what have you!
So good, and depending on additional toppings, you get 8 pieces for 6pp each...and the pieces are a nice size! I know I used a lot of Trader Joe's items but you can use your favorite brand.
I finished my night by packing up the tie blanket I made this weekend. I am donating it to a silent auction for a little boy whose family is from my dad's hometown. It sure feels nice to help out where I can!

Not feeling well...
At all!
My night tonight is going to be pretty easy...and I am looking forward to it. I want to do a quick 1 mile run. With the 5k in less then a month, I gotta start running consistently and I personally think a little movement or exercise is good when I am sick (although I have read some reports that it is not as it inflames your sinuses and stuff-I have never been good at listening). Then, it will be inside to have dinner, shower, then lay on the couch all night watching tv and/or movies. And when I say lay on the couch, I mean like bring my pillow and comforter to the couch, have a huge glass of water, and just not move.
I hope to put up some pictures from V-day, and maybe work on a bit of homework, but that is all...I know that sounds like a lot but for me, it really isn't! I generally pack my plate pretty full so this will be relaxing for sure!
I am a little put off that this is the second time in the last two months that I have been sick with a cold but what can you do. Aside from medicine, zicam, Kleenex, water, a humidifier, and hand soap, I really don't know what else I can do.

One hell of a weekend...
This weekend was ridiculously busy, on top of which, I was ridiculously sick.
Last week I started to get back into the post holiday health kick. I took my new Garmin watch out for a run last Sunday and logged over 2 miles. I also did Body Pump last Wednesday at the Y...that class rocked! And I ate decent, up until this weekend. I didn't really get off track, but I also didn't track which I have learned can add to sneaky little points adding up real fast. I spent yesterday with my head on a pillow since it hurt to hold upright, but even a headache did not stop me from munching...ah the downfalls of a perpetual muncher. Such is life.
We got almost everything moved into our new apartment this weekend. Again, I was little help as I was dying from the inside out, but I did my best and with the help of some strong young men, we got so much done! There is literally maybe one car load left at D. Lo's...it feels wonderful to not have to do anymore heavy lifting mixed with stairs...although I am sure it is a great workout! Now all we have to do is turn on the tv and pound out unpacking boxes...this part is less stressful for me then the moving although I will get to the point where I just want everything unpacked! And since I was sick yesterday, I got ahead on some homework so now I can just go home, have dinner, and work on unpacking...slowly! I am even going to try to hit up body pump tomorrow after work! Can't lose site of my health!
And this brings me to my last thought for the day...I have my membership till the end of the month...since I am a student, I am able to do a three month discounted membership. I am mixed on signing up for another 3 months. It is costly, no matter the discount, and I am trying to get more running in (when I start running, I maybe see the gym once or twice a week-not worth the money). But on the other hand, I know I will not want to be running on freezing cold days. For sure this summer I will be great with my dvd's and the pavement...I am just up in the air about the next three months...feel free to let me know your thoughts!
P.S. I am going to make the 100% Irish for a Day 5k for my birthday a tradition and do it again this year...let me know if you are interested!!! I have some new running shoes that are ready for me to beat them up!
